Repurpose Content Over and Over

August 12, 2009 by Repurposing · Leave a Comment

We have all heard the same suggestions like write an ebook and create an article from the book or hold a teleseminar and turn it into an ebook.  Most often you hear the same 8 to 10 different ways to repurpose content over and over again.

The problem with just repurposing the 8 to 10 ways that you hear about all the time is that you are leaving most of the money on the table;  money that could be in your pocket.

I know that you often hear someone say that you are leaving money on the table for one reason or another so let me explain why you are leaving so much money on the table by not repurposing. This way you can make up your own mind.

First let me explain what repurposing is and why you can’t afford not to repurpose. Repurposing is when you take any piece of information or content that you have created and use it over and over again for other uses.

Why is that important?

Did you know that there are 4 ways that people learn?

  • Visual – seeing
  • Auditory or aural – hearing
  • Kinesthetic – movement
  • Tactile – touch

The important thing about knowing this is if you don’t get yourself in front of all the eyeballs that you possibly can, then you are leaving money on the table.

Here’s an example:  Let’s say you just created a great ebook and you are selling it from your website for $19.97. After your customer pays for the ebook he or she can download it and read it when ever they would like.

Sounds great – you’re making some money and you have a smile on your face. However, because there are four ways that people learn there are people who would really like the great information that you wrote in your ebook but don’t like to read. If they don’t like to read or don’t have time to read, they won’t buy your ebook.

To reach the largest number of people with your information you should offer your information in additional formats. First thing you should do is take your ebook and make it into an audio. Now people who don’t like to read, who have trouble comprehending what they read, or who don’t have time to read have the option to get your information in audio format.

Makes good sense… Right??

See ya soon…

Repurpose In Additional Formats

To reach the largest number of people with your information you should offer your information in additional formats. First thing you should do is take your ebook and make it into an audio. Now people who don’t like to read, who have trouble comprehending what they read, or who don’t have time to read have the option to get your information in audio format.

You can do this in a few ways…

Streaming / Flash – They can listen to the book on your website only

Digital / MP3 – They can download the audio from your site to their computer or mp3 player. They can also burn their own CD.

Physical / CD – This is where you would send your customers a CD of your book in audio format.

You can charge different prices for each one. Also consider that some people will purchase the same product in multiple formats. They may like the convenience of listening to the audio at the gym, while taking a walk or in their car while driving. Some times people like to be able to search a text document for a specific piece of information. They may also like to print out a copy that they can highlight. For information-hungry people it is not unusual for them to buy the same product in multiple formats.

Offering your information in multiple formats easily creates additional products for you to sell. It increases sales because you are able to make sales to people who may not have purchased your product if it was not available in the format that they wanted. It also increases sales when people buy the same product in multiple formats.

This was just one example of repurposing. In Repurposing Secrets you can discover over 216 ways to repurpose your content quickly and easily. There is no reason for you to leave money on the table any longer.

Would you rather work harder creating new content for your business or would you rather leverage your content and work more efficiently? The choice is up to you. You can always work harder if that’s what you prefer ;-)

But if you’re like me, I like to do the work once and use it over and over again to create more free time for me and my family.

That’s why I regularly use repurposing to create additional content to increase traffic to my websites, increase subscribers and develop additional customers. Your business could also benefit from using repurposing.

What Will Repurposing Do For My Customers and Subscribers?

What will repurposing do for your customers and subscribers?

That’s a great question… Your first priority should always be your customers and subscribers….

You should ask yourself “what is in it for my customer?”; “how will they benefit from repurposing?”

Before I answer this question let me say this… one of the biggest mistakes that business owners make is not getting in front of all the eyeballs that they can.

I know that I’ve mentioned this before but it’s an important point…

Example: You have just created a best selling book on Amazon…You are getting great reviews and comments, and you are making some money for your efforts…

That doesn’t sound too bad does it?

Let’s take this one step further… There are four different types of learners as proven by researchers and educators. These learning styles are:

  • Visual – seeing
  • Auditory or aural – hearing
  • Kinesthetic – movement
  • Tactile – touch

Now knowing this, what do you suppose happens if you have a product like a great ebook that is only in text and your prospective client is a Auditory or Aural learner?…

This type of learner doesn’t like to Read… They don’t connect with you and you’re leaving lots of money on the table…

This is not a good thing… but it happens all the time…

That’s why I’m repeating myself… I want you to get this in your head…

By providing materials in different formats, you attract all types of learners and therefore expand your customer base. If you create an audio version of your material, someone who doesn’t like to read but does like to listen can be a customer you would not have if you didn’t have an audio version.

That makes good sense…

So what does your customer or subscriber get from repurposing? They get a product that they want, the way they want it…

They are happy and so are you…

Come back for some more on repurposing!

Book Repurposing

You can make more money by repurposing your book than you can from writing your book.

Let me explain.

If you write a book you may make some money by selling it.

Maybe

If you take that same book and repurpose it into different products you will make a lot more money.

You can create additional products to sell and you can also create marketing materials by repurposing your book.

Since you already have the content, repurposing into other products and marketing materials is really simple to do.
